煮出精菜,炒出味来, Sing Yi elevates appreciation of Singapore’s Chinese food culture with fine zi char cuisine.

Founder Lim Cheng Hoon came all alone to Singapore from Malaysia in 1988 to work as a zi char stall apprentice under the recommendation of his fellow countryman. Young and aspiring, he was driven by a single goal — to make a name for himself in this new place away from home. Today, Lim is not only a skilful chef, but also the founder of zi char business — Sing Yi Seafood Garden.

Lim’s success stems from his relentless efforts since his apprenticeship days. Impressed by his diligence and eagerness to learn, Lim’s head chef back then imparted his cooking skills to him. Coupled with Lim’s innate talent, he not only managed to become a good cook in a short period of time but was also quickly promoted to the role of head chef. In charge of managing all matters relating to the kitchen, staff and operations, he amassed valuable management skills in the process.

For many years now, Sing Yi Seafood Garden has been serving up delectable zi char dishes for diners. Besides traditional favourites, Lim has also introduced many creative items that are “re-defined old favourites” to constantly surprise diners and enhance their dining pleasure. To Lim, zi char is an integral part of Singapore’s Chinese food culture. It is also an especially meaningful part in his personal life journey, for without zi char there would be no Sing Yi. The mission of Sing Yi is to carry on the traditional zi char food culture while introducing it to more people through innovative cooking methods.
